Media and Publication Courts add extra burdens on Iraqi Press

15/07/2015 00:12:06

IJRDA Media and Publication Courts add extra burdens on Iraqi Press Iraqi Journalists Rights Defense Association (IJRDA) called the Higher Judicial Council to scrutinize the court cases against media organs and journalists by some governmental and private sectors, as well as some responsible officials. The courts used to support the opinions of the state, as reported by IJRDA spokesman Nadhim al-Ukaili. "The Media and Publication Court, through its numberless verdicts, put severe burdens on the shoulders of press institutions and journalists with imaginary fines that could not be paid by governmental establishments", he added. He elaborated that the fines imposed on the al-Nahar daily and al-Nahar TV reached to 410 billion Iraqi dinars for publishing and exposing corruption cases, pointing that such fines cannot be paid by the two institutions. Spokesman Ukaili pointed that "IJRDA believes that the continuation in dealing with such cases and have pro-verdicts will affect the freedom of press in documenting and disclosing the corruption cases. "Such verdicts will threaten the freedom of the press and limit the movement of journalists and media organs, which contradict the constitutional guarantees and related laws connected with press freedoms and journalistic right", Ukaili confirmed. He added that all press reports published by al-Nahar institutions were criticizing corruption in state departments Ibrahim Al-Sragey Director Iraqi Journalists Rights Defense Association (IJRDA) Baghdad, Iraq , Rasheed Street, Near Jamahiriya Bridge, Al-Marjan Website: www.ijrda.org / https://iraqjournalistrights.crowdmap.com/ www.ijrda.net E-mail: alsragey@ijrda.org / alijrda@gmail.com Skype: Ibrahim.ali939 Facebook: ibrahim alsragey 07706246249 07901739832 Member foianet Member Civicus .
